I manage all environmental studies, permits and real-estate due diligence, along with civil engineering design. It is a privilege to serve our clients to provide them with services that allow them to be their best at serving their customers.
Working in the highly-technical arena of substations, the heart of any utility, is an enjoyable and rewarding challenge. It positively impacts our clients and their customers.
Jeremiah Waugh, EIT
I design overhead and underground distribution lines. Working with smaller utilities gives me the opportunity to get to know them and their system on a personal level. I know them by name-not by job number.
Kam Afshari, EIT
Electrical system modeling and mapping is my gig. My job is to translate actual field data into and out of computer based models, allowing us to review and prepare for multiple "what-if" scenarios.
My job is to make sure all our engineers have the tools they need to do their jobs efficiently. I am in charge of purchasing, asset management, computer and phone systems as well as report production. I love my job because all our people are just awesome!
The small to mid-sized public utilities really make my job enjoyable because of the great people and the technical challenge faced each and every day, plus my fellow Brown & Kysar teammates are awesome!
Thatcher Gordon, EIT
Working with BKI for small/mid-size utilities is a lot of fun and presents interesting and unique challenges. My focus is Systems & Protection as part of the Design team.
I take pride in making sure all aspects of our public utility construction projects are up to code, safe, and meet the operational needs of our clients.
Serving small public utilities has always afforded me the opportunity to work beside great people to meet very unique service challenges head-on. Where else could an engineer work on designs, trim trees, set protection equipment, and answer outage-calls?

Serving public power not only allows for an opportunity to apply my knowledge and provide effective solutions to the many unique challenges we face, but also provides the opportunity to build relationships with our clients and their customers.
